The country has many tourist attractions and this has made tourism the largest source of foreign exchange. On top of tourist attractions, the country has a highly developed infrastructure which facilitates the smooth running of the industry. There are there major national parks in Rwanda where tourists visit to see different wildlife, and these are Akagera National park, Volcanoes National Park, and Nyungwe Forest National Park. The other new park is the Gishwati forest.

Apart from the national parks, there are other many tourist destinations which include the Congo Nile trail, lake Kivu, genocide memorial sites, cultural museums.

The Virunga mountain rangers has the highest point of the country with Karisimbi, standing at 4,507 meters. Mount Bisoke, Mt. Sabinyo which form part of the Virunga mountain ranges offer opportunities for hiking.
